In both cases, an efficient cup-horn sonoreactor was used as ultrasonic device to accelerate the extraction process. This ultrasonic processor allows the use of any extractant including HF and simultaneous treatment of up to six samples. Recovery ranged from 81% to 107% for silver, and from 91% to 105% for gold. Optimal acid mixtures were 25% v/v HNO3 + 25% v/v HF for Ag and 25% v/v HNO3 + 25% v/v HCI for Au. The thiourea method required 0.6% m/v thiourea + 2% v/v H2SO4. The latter method was considered advantageous since efficient Au and Ag extractions were obtained in a short time, and moreover,
wastes generated were less harmful to the environment. CH5183284 research buy Limits of detection for Ag and Au were 0.012 and 0.050 mu g g(-1), respectively. Repeatability expressed as relative standard deviation ranged from 2 to 10% for both metals. Both extraction methods were applied to the determination of Au and Ag in sediments and soils located at different sampling points from Galicia (Spain). (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.”
“Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is characterized by elevated levels of serum gastrin associated with
increased gastric acid secretion, gastrointestinal ulcerations and diarrhea. Most gastrinomas (75%) occur sporadically and are located within the gastrinoma triangle. Cilengitide molecular weight Extraduodenal, extrapancreatic and extranodal gastrinomas have been shown in 5.6% of the patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome who underwent surgery. We report a 44-year-old female who had been complaining of nausea and diarrhea for 12 years. Abdominal computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging detected a homogeneous, regular-shaped 6 x 7 cm solid mass, located between the liver, right kidney and inferior vena cava. Somatostatin receptor positive scanning led us to investigate a neuroendocrine tumor.
Serum gastrin level was found very high and the patient underwent surgery. Local excision of the tumor was performed, and an 8x6x5 cm, well-capsulated, solitary mass, originating from the common bile duct was removed. The unique feature of our case is the unusual localization, and although the tumor was very large small molecule library screening in size, only capsule invasion was observed with no evidence of distant metastasis.”
“We investigated the Ra isotope quartet in order to quantify the discharge of saline groundwater into a freshwater lake. The activities of (226)Ra, (228)Ra, (223)Ra, and (224)Ra were measured in the Sea of Galilee, Israel, surrounding saline springs, and the Jordan River, coupled with U, Th, and (226)Ra measurements in sediment cores and laboratory Ra adsorption experiments under different salinity conditions. The (226)Ra activity (0.007-0.008 Bq L(-1)) and (226)Ra : Cl ratio in the lake were significantly lower than those of the inflowing saline springs, indicating that 75-86% of the incoming (226)Ra is removed from the lake water. This “missing” Ra is likely adsorbed onto suspended particles.
